A writer originally from the Cantal, Marie-Hélène Lafon was born in 1962 into a farming family in the commune of Saint-Saturnin. This village is located near Ségur-les-Villas, where the La Gazelle Perchée cabins are situated.
His career path
Marie-Hélène Lafon left for Paris to continue her studies before becoming a teacher there. She spends most of her time there, but likes to return regularly to her native Cantal, where she recharges her batteries in her country house, not far from Ségur-les-Villas.
It was in the early 2000s that she began to write.
The Santoire valley, the view of which can be admired from our cabins, as well as the river of the same name, are particularly dear to him and frequently feature in his novels. His works are inspired by rural life and accurately describe the existence of its inhabitants.
Marie-Hélène Lafon has received several prizes and distinctions, including the prestigious Prix Renaudot in 2020 for her novel Story of a son.
In 2016, The Announcement, adaptation of his novel of the same title, was filmed in the Puy-de-Dôme.
His attachment to the Cantal is very present in his work, which highlights rural life and the stories of those who inhabit these areas.
