Cantal and the Tour de France
Cantal is making a grand return to the 2026 Tour de France, as Cantal is regularly chosen by the organisers for:
Its rolling roads and mountain passes, such as the Pas de Peyrol at the foot of the Puy Mary, offer spectacular stages that give climbers plenty of opportunities to shine.
Its unique panoramic views with the verdant valleys before climbing the various mountain passes
For our welcoming side of course…
And this year will be the 8th time.
Two days in Cantal
We are honoured to have the Tour de France riders in our department, the Cantal, for two days. On the 13th of July, a rest day in our prefecture, Aurillac. Known for being the umbrella capital and for its street theatre festival every year in August, but also often singled out by our weather presenters for frequently being the coldest town, though that is just a legend...
The first rest day in Aurillac could not have been better chosen for resting and recharging, just an hour away from our unusual cabins at La Gazelle Perchée.
14 July: The big day
It is 167 kilometres that the riders will cover across our Cantal region, with a start in Aurillac and a finish at the Le Lioran resort. When we look on Google Maps, only a few kilometres separate
the 2 locations. But no, make no mistake, our riders will make a short detour and cross mountain passes such as La Griffoul, Le Pertus, Prat de Bouc and our Puy Mary, of which we are so proud. From its summit (1,783 metres above sea level) we have a breathtaking view of 7 glacial valleys, including the Santoire valley where our 2 cabins, La Gazelle Perchée, are located in the commune of Ségur-les-Villas 15300.
La Gazelle Perchée
We are located just a short half-hour from the Puy Mary, in the Santoire valley, one of the 7 glacial valleys. For Tour de France lovers or cycling enthusiasts, we await you in one of our cabins to recharge, rest, and get a breath of fresh air.
